Far-Western University was established through the declaration of Council of Minister in 2011 A.D. (2068 B.S.). University Act was passed by Constituent Assembly in 2010 A.D. (2067 B.S.). Till date only University Central Campus is included in Far-Western University which was converted from Shree Siddhanath Multiple Campus. Fifteen other community based campuses of Far-Western region are waiting to be converted into the constituent campus of the university.
The Undergraduate academic session was launched in 2013 A.D. (Mangsir-Poush 2069) and Graduate level in February 2014 A.D. (Falgun 2070). At present Far-Western University has five academic programs under the faculties of management, education, humanities and social sciences, science and technology and school of engineering. Graduate and undergraduate programs are conducted in the University Central Campus. Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) program is administered under annual system, where as other programs follow the semester system.
Humanities and Social Sciences, Management and Education faculties offer both Undergraduate as well as Graduate level programs, whereas School of Engineering, B.Sc. CSIT and General Science offer only Undergraduate programs. Each faculty conducts entrance examinations for student enrollment through adhoc exam board. There is tough competition among mass of examinees due to quota system in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Management programs.
Pass marks for Graduate and Undergraduate levels are 50 and 45 respectively. Letter grading system prevails in semester system and division system is applied in annual program. Midterm and End term exams are conducted during a semester and students have to pass both exams separately. The weightage of marks in midterm is 40% while in end term it is 60% in semester system whereas 20% for internal and 80% for final exam in annual system. Internal marks are assessed on the bases of attendance, quiz, term paper, group discussion and written test. Office of The Controller of Examinations conducts final examinations within six months from semester commencement date. Examination schedule is published at least 15 days prior to the final examinations. Internal and External examiners are appointed for practical examinations and Viva-Voce for dissertation.
For smooth conduct of examinations, the office strictly follows the Ordinances relating to the conduct of Examinations in terms of appointment of the Paper- Setters, Examiners, and Moderators. Provisions of appointing external examiners/personnel also help to bring in transparency in rigorously followed process of examinations.
Results are generally published within 1-3 months after examinations according to the chronological order. Answer sheets are examined within the premises of controller of examinations office to ensure confidentiality and security.
The activities of the Office of The Controller of Examinations are controlled by the exam board under the chairmanship of the Registrar.
Examination activities were started in 2013 through the appointment of the first Controller of Examinations Mr. Kumar Thapa. He was succeeded by Prof. Bhaskar Datta Joshi who assumed office on 22 Magh 2072 B.S. Assistant Professor Prem Singh Bhat was appointed as Deputy Controller of Examinations on 18 Poush 2073 B.S.
The examination board is an agency with the right to conduct administrative processes. The examination board makes sure that the conditions of the exam regulation are adhered to and that exams are conducted as per the regulations. It is particularly responsible for decisions about contradictions against decisions within the examination process.
